Start from the GeM category, not just a keyword
Every GeM bid is created in a category, and only sellers offering that category can participate. So the first step is to know the exact category names your product or service falls under. A laptop seller, for example, may need to watch more than one laptop category, plus annual maintenance categories if they also offer service.
Write down every category you can genuinely supply and keep the list next to your catalogue. Category names on GeM change when new versions are released, so review the list every few months.
Add keyword searches for what categories miss
Keywords catch bids that sit in a broader or custom category, or where the buyer described the item in its own words. Search both the formal name and common words buyers use — "multifunction printer" and "MFP", "manpower" and "outsourcing". Avoid very short keywords that match unrelated bids.
Filter by where you can actually deliver
A bid with consignees in a state you cannot serve is not a lead. Filter by state and city of delivery, and check the consignee list inside the bid — a bid created by an office in one city can have delivery points in several districts.
Shortlist in two minutes per bid
- ✓Category and quantity: can you supply it, in that volume?
- ✓End date: is there enough time to arrange documents and OEM authorisation?
- ✓Eligibility: turnover, past performance, MSE/startup exemption
- ✓EMD and ePBG: amount, and whether you are exempt from EMD
- ✓Delivery period and consignee locations
- ✓ATC: any unusual document, site visit or certification
Track buyers who buy repeatedly
Many offices buy the same items every year. Looking at past and closed bids for your category shows which ministries, departments and states buy regularly, at roughly what quantities, and who usually wins. That helps you plan stock, pricing and which buyers to watch closely.
Set alerts so you see bids on day one
Most bids stay open only for a couple of weeks, and the first days matter if you need an OEM letter or a certificate. Daily alerts for your categories, keywords and states mean you are not relying on someone remembering to check the portal. On Mitra you can browse live bids by category, state, city, ministry and department, and get matching bids on WhatsApp and email every day.

Frequently asked questions
Where can I see all live GeM tenders?
Live bids are published on gem.gov.in. Mitra lists the same live GeM bids with filters by category, state, city, ministry and department, and sends daily alerts for the ones that match you.
Why can't I participate in a bid I found?
Usually because your GeM profile does not offer the bid's exact category, or your catalogue in that category is not active. Add the category before the bid closes.
How long do GeM bids stay open?
It varies by bid; many stay open for roughly one to three weeks, and the end date can be extended by corrigendum. Always go by the end date shown on the bid.
Can I search GeM tenders by state or city?
Yes. Mitra lists live GeM bids by state and city of delivery, and you can also filter by ministry and department. Always check the consignee list inside the bid for exact delivery points.
What is the best keyword to find my tenders?
Use the exact GeM category first, then add the formal product name and the common words buyers use for it. Review results and drop keywords that bring unrelated bids.
